One suggestion, you could zoom the stills to fit the 16:9 frame, then transition into and out of them back to video, would appear smoother, which might I may guess is what Steve was noting. You could also Ken Burns effect the stills so the illusion of motion is there.

Personally, I would do this too, but I really enjoyed your production regardless.
