GPS & Compass (on phone/tab)

Can someone who is sure please confirm whether the Spark uses the gps &/or compass on "the phone" under any circumstances?

I used to have problems with my P2V+ if the compass on my phone was out of calibration - but doesn't seem to arise with the Spark

The DJI GO app uses the compass on the mobile device no matter which DJI drone you're flying.

Thanks very much for the confirmation - I used to get orientation issues with my P2V+ whenever my phone compass needed 3 axis calibration (which was often) - but don't seem to with the Spark - strange I felt.
