Does Quickshots require an SD card?

I am using a Spark with only an iPad mini 2 as the controller - no mobile service, just local wi-fi.
My Spark is flying pretty well using the virtual joysticks but when I tried to use the quickshots, I got an
error that said something about an SD card error.

Is it perhaps necessary to have an SD card to use Quickshots? I do not yet have a micro-SD card.
