I was using this app with OTG on Xiaomi 5 for some flights. When I did a test flight in my backyard I had the "Aircraft Disconnected" message and a blacked out screen. I tried a restart of the app, re-cabling etc for about 5min without success. Because I had LOS I still managed to bring it home...

In my opinion it's good practice to do it as some people reported Fly Aways due to compass errors. There is message before the flight when the AC thinks it needs recalibration. I used to do it everytime but since I never encountered the compass error message again I don't do it anymore.

In addition it's nearly impossible for western companies to compete with DJI's prices. GoPro left the market very quick for a reason. If there is a future competitor it will be chinese as well imho..

No. It used to work. Without. a. flaw. I doubt you'll find any posts here that refer to OTG+correct (older) app version being the issue in disconnects or flyaways. In contrast users here reported a much better experience using the cable. You shouldn't be surprised with OTG on newer versions...

Most likely this is an advanced maveuver and not so easy to know it in your first week of ownership. :) Maybe kick in Sports Mode next time. It's much more effective in windy conditions.

In Germany by the laws you have to put a fireproof sign on your drone which contains your adress and number. I ordered one which is really tiny font and only weighs 1.8 grams

Go for the modded app or switch to FCC mode. Transmission was fine with OTG in earlier versions. The latest DJI GO app is mostly unusable due to transmission issues.

I use a Xiaomi 5 and for me it's super stable. I have both the modded and original app installed. There are some features on NLD that are not covered by modded apps like height limitation that I would like to test out but downgrading 4 firmware versions feels too risky for me.

There are good enough reasons not to do this. Especially the Spark can be taken away by wind easier than other DJI drones. After a certain altitude it's not easy to see which direction the drone is facing or how to react if a wind gust takes your drone a few meters away. It's safer for drone...

I'd like to use the gimbal protection. Though I see myself running a future flight halfway through and realizing the blurred image is not the clouds but my gimbal protector.
