Don't worry too much about Spark. It is very stable especially with its GPS lock. Just take off and you can let go your hands and it will just hover around 1 metre above ground rooted to the spot. I even have a high tension electrical cables about 50 metres away.

Yes, Spark connects to the remote controller or your phone via Wifi. The internet connection on your phone will only be use if there are any firmware updates, map updates or DJI Go 4 app updates.
Seems to be a bit quiet here now. I have the Spark. Got it sometime in Nov, 2017. Struggle a bit with the app. but it is ok for now. Installed the ARGtek long range antenna from Nelson. So far all is good to go. BTW, I stayed at SS4.
I had that same problem with the initial release of DJI Go 4 ver. 4.1.18. The subsequent patches solved that problem. The current build is 426.
Another option is to downgrade to ver. 4.1.15. This is the most stable version at the moment with a working OTG.

I am using the new Nokia 8 (Android 7.1.1 Nougat). I have constant "No signal", "Disconnection" and video lag with DJI Go ver. 4.1.18. until the recent patch which clears up the signal loss and disconnection issue. However, when I do an OTG connection, I still do get the N/A...
