Yes this is common. The forward obstacle sensors are Infrared, so they trigger off of the Sun. To verify this, fly toward the west at sunset on a cloudy day. You wont have the problem.

I did not have DJI Care Refresh. I caught a tree limb while landing, Messed up a motor and cracked an Arm. $35 in parts, $130 labor. Quick turn around and it flys Great. Now I have Refresh, so I probably won't need it again

From what I've seen there are not a whole lot places you can fly in San Diego. I was out there last month and thought about taking Sparky out, but it just seemed like the whole area is restricted, unless you can get out into the desert
