You found the answer before I could say it! Yes, the OTG cable should not be connected. It is better to update using DJI Assistant with a direct USB connection to the bird.

You don't say whether you are using the remote control or not; if so you can try pairing the two again without using the otg cable. If you are using only a phone or tablet, check your wifi connection.

Thanks Kris. The pictures are good and show the task is achievable. I suspect the screws are M1.5x6mm stainless thin cheese head ones. As my a.c. is still under warranty (just) I'll let DJI have it first.
