Hello:

In another post I read that RTH will not avoid obstacles if you are more than 100M out? Is this true? If you set RTH height will it still climb to the set height and RTH?

Correct, to return home faster obstacle avoidance is deactivated during RTH over 100M out, and it will climb to the set high if below it.

I saw that in the manual and thought that was just strange. I just can’t think of a difference for avoidance set at a 100M marker. My simple mind can’t comprehend.

Speed is the difference. When it's far away, it goes much faster and thus can't avoid obstacles.

Hi Les,
The difference is in the speed when at different distances, unless when triggered it’s due to a very low battery. The speed is not included in the second part of the article but because the craft is less than 100 meters it will not need to book it home and can continue using the OA to return home safely. Only a low, low battery will it alter its flight plan.
I found that out the hard way, nearly landing on an interstate after getting a critical low battery warning in a RTH scenario. I was just learning about the RTH when in a low battery state. Nearly “ Ca Ca “ myself that day.
