So I went up for a quick flight for two reasons tonight... one to try and catch the sun, and more importantly, to see if I could get a look at the forest fires burning around us. Closest one is 15miles (25km) and wind is directing it to us. Bad year for these fires... lightning is starting the majority of them.

Here's a few shots , there is a lot of smoke in the air, so they may appear a little fuzzy.

DJI_0078.JPG If you look just left of center on the horizon, you can see the smoke haze. This was taken at 300ft up. I had to be quick, we've had water bombers flying over all day. Across the province, there are many many fires burning... I've included this map...We are east of North Bay.. wish us luck... hopefully they will get the two east of us under control soon. We NEED RAIN!!!! What a summer. I think some of you will be surprised how large Ontario is compared to many US states. Its early but we are discussing an evac plan just in case.

Wish you the best of luck with the fires, mate. Hopefully the wind stays light & they are able to waterbomb the hell out of it. Be Safe.

Thanks, there is talk of wind direction changing which would have the nearest one pass us by, however, they are also talking thunderstorms, which may just start more fires. The rain promised is never what they say its going to be this year. What is billed as a 5-10mm rain accumulation turns out to be 5 minutes of light rain.... I have never seen my forest so dry in 11 years.

Scary situation for sure. I certainly hope the best for you in this. Keep us posted on this.

Thanks for the well wishes. We had a very light rain on Sunday, and again a bit yesterday, that may help, the closest fires are now considered under control, but a very much larger one south east of those is still raging, and inching north west... (in our direction). Its over 30 miles away, but given the dry state of things, a good wind could decrease that margin of safety for us. This is likely to continue all summer sadly. A couple of years back in Fort McMurray, Alberta, the devastation was incredible....88,000 people forced out of their homes. Same in California recently. These small fires can become wildfires so easily. Look at Greece in the news today... 50 people dead in wild fires.

I hope things continue to improve for you and the rest of the world. So sad to see the massive loss and devastation everywhere. Another point is that there must be a huge loss of wildlife as well. And then there is the loss of livestock and pets. So very sad. Thanks for the update as I was just wondering about that as I was watching your critter cam video on YT. As the phrase went in the movie "Hunger Games"... "May the odds be ever more in your favor". :)

Ya, the critter cam... that's another of my media adventures ;)... if anyone is interested in more wildlife, I have a still image gallery also, its at Our Wildlife | The Woods Gallery and there are approximately 183 photos there from various cams at our place.
