New flyer. I am envious of any who live in rural areas.

I am in El Paso, Texas, living on the foothills of Franklin Mountains (not the majestic type of mountains). I will try to do everything legal, but the attached map makes it look like a challenge. This is one of the negatives of living a mile from hospitals. Have any of you had experiences with contacting and getting clearance from hospitals with helipads?

All you have to do is contact the helipad operator, you don't need their authorization. If you called them and no one answered, you made an attempt and are in compliance. Best Practices for Flying your Drone within Five Miles of an Airport - AOPA
