If I'm on a cliff looking down on a lake to fly out over and I hit RH will it just climb back up to my home point w/o me doing some other special settings?

Yes, as long as "Your Home Point is Recorded" shows on the screen.
Always give your Spark a moment after takeoff to record its home point, then yes it should climb up and RTH

so long as you have set the RTH altitude from where you flew off,, (Home Point). When starting you will get a message " Home Point Recorded,. RTH Altitude 30m", with this you won't have any issues. Drone will climb to the altitude you have set from your start location, height..

will it just climb back up to my home point w/o me doing some other special settings?
When RTH is initiated, the Spark will ascend from the current altitude displayed in DJI GO up to your RTH altitude before returning to the home point.

For example, if the current altitude displayed in DJI GO is -20 meters and your RTH altitude is set to 30 meters, the Spark will ascend up to 0 meters and then up to 30 meters before returning back to the home point.
