    This registering individual drones is stupid. I could see registering the owner, but given how these crash and get tossed, registering individual units seems overly burdensome.

    You do not register the individual drones unless you are a Part 107 holder and use them for business. Hobby flyers only need to register the user once every three years for a $5 fee and that covers all the drones you use for hobby fun.
