Try to connect to the wifi of the RC with the phone and make sure there is not a dialogue box asking something like "this network has no internet connectivity, are you sure you wish to stay connected to this network?" Agree to this and then launch the DJI app - will work then.

Thanks! We will actually be staying in Leeuwarden as we have family living nearby in Steins and Berlikum. The cultural capitol activities will add to the experience. Looks like I won't be flying much there though :+(

The controller is on sale at DJI so last night I pulled the trigger - controller, battery and 2 pairs of props. I'll have a look on Amazon for the prop guards/legs for it. Enjoying the heck out of this thing!!
