Your using a Lightening Cable (Apple connector). The controllers port is a microUSB. Stop trying to force the wrong cable in there, or you'll likely break the port and have to return it for a replacement controller.

And yes, that's an aftermarket guard. There are two types. Both of them prevent the gimbal from tilting left and right in it's full range. You'll get gimbal errors and funny movement once you take the guard off. I know, I've tested both. They might be ok for traveling, but not flying

There is an easy way to get to the true max speed, is while connected to the Spark, go into the settings, and look under the controller section. You'll see a slider with an "rpm" dial on both ends. That's your speed controller. To get max speed, side it all the way to the right, and set the...
